NHS Health Checks

Free NHS Health Checks

Are you aged between 40 and 74, not on a “statin” medication and are not under review for any of the following:

  • Hypertension
  • Diabetes
  • Atrial fibrillation
  • Transient ischaemic attack (TIA)
  • Familia hypercholesterolaemia, heart failure

You may be entitled to a free NHS Health Check. The check will assess whether you are at risk of any of these diseases. After the check you will be informed of your results and offered personal advice on your further management if required. Treatment or medication may be prescribed to help you maintain good health.

Smoking Cessation Advice

Free Smoking Cessation Advice

If you are considering stopping smoking, there is a free quitting service on offer. National statistics show that you are four times more likely to succeed in quitting if you are booked in to a programme. There is a trained smoking cessation advisor who will give you strategies to help you in your quit attempt and discuss week by week how you are getting on.

Quitting smoking dramatically increases your chances of living a longer and healthier life.

Shingles Vaccination

You may be eligible to receive a vaccination against shingles. All patients aged 71 & 72 years on 1st September 2015. All patients aged 79 years are eligible.

Flu Clinics

Flu clinic are available between September and February.

Medicals

Are not covered by the NHS.

Chronic Disease Review

Patients with a history of asthma, heart disease, high blood pressure, chronic obstructive airway disease, diabetes, thyroid disease, epilepsy or mental health problems are advised to be reviewed on a six monthly basis with a nurse or doctor appointment. You may be reminded to attend for review.

Immunisations For Adults

This includes Rubella and shingles vaccinations and, in the autumn ’Flu injections. All children are recommended to have a full course of immunisations. All vaccinations are done by the Practice Nurse.

Family Planning

For Emergency contraception advice contact your local Pharmacy or request an ‘emergency’ appointment with the Doctor. Routine Family Planning advice can be requested from the Practice Nurse. Out of hours emergency contraception can be obtained from a Family Planning Clinic or bought from a Pharmacy.
